On a trip to Hawaii in April 2011, Erin and Benjamin got up early and went for a hike on the island of Kauai. When the couple got to the top, Erin set out to take some photos. Benjamin had other plans.
“Benjamin said to me “how about the view over here?” and when I turned to see him he was on one knee with a ring in his hand,” Erin says.
Both Erin and Benjamin hail from New England—she from Vermont and he from Maine. Since Benjamin’s uncle owned a rental business in Trenton, Mane (Grand Rental Station), the couple decided on a coastal Maine wedding in Sullivan.
“Both of our ceremony and reception locations have lovely views of Mount Desert Island,” Erin says. The couple’s ceremony was held at the Island View Inn and their reception was next door at The Sealight. “The Island View Inn is so old fashioned and beautiful, and my family stayed at The Sealight, which was equally as beautiful.”
The couple wanted to make their wedding their own, and did so by including hula hoops, a bounce house, 80s glasses, Twister, and a selection of mustaches to their big day.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about her wedding day. Here’s what Erin said…
…the day would have lasted longer and we could have had more time with our guests.
I didn’t realize
…we would be so touched by seeing all of our friends and family come together for us! We felt so loved!
One of my favorite moments was
…when it down-poured, causing all the mosquitoes to go away.
I’m glad that
…we had a beautiful view on a beautiful day with beautiful people around.
I really liked
…that our families were as helpful as they were. We couldn’t have done it without them!
My advice to other brides is
…to make sure to eat your meal when it’s time because that’s the only chance you’ll have.
