On a weekend trip to New York City, Jennifer had a feeling “something was up” because Wesley was acting a bit off. “He really wanted to propose to me in Central Park, but anxiousness overtook him and he asked me the second we got into our hotel room,” she says.
The couple had dreamed of getting married with their toes in the sand, so the Massachusetts natives planned a southern Maine wedding at Pine Point Beach in Scarborough. “My family rents a house every year on the beach,” Jennifer says. “When we got engaged we decided to get married during the family trip!”
They exchanged vows on the beach using family heirlooms—Wesley’s wedding band was his grandfather’s and Jennifer’s engagement ring was Wesley’s great-grandmothers, then his grandmother’s. “I love the decades of love behind my ring,” Jennifer says.
Their relaxed, beachy, coastal-themed wedding was turned up a notch after the ceremony when the new Mr. and Mrs. and their guests headed to Grace Restaurant in Portland for their reception.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about her big day. Here’s what Jennifer said…
…we took more time off after the wedding. With all that planning and build-up, a longer vacation would have been great!
I didn’t realize
…just how fast the day would go by. I wish I had had time to talk to every single person at length!
I’m glad that
…I did my own make up but had my hair professionally done.
I really liked
…our “strolling reception.” It felt more like a party—and it was! People could go to food stations at their leisure and dance and socialize as they liked. Everyone said they had a blast and that’s exactly what we wanted.
My advice to other brides is
…to eat a good breakfast and lunch the day of the wedding because you will be too busy socializing at the reception!
