Jon and Meghan had one of their first dates at the Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston in May of 2009. The couple went for a hike and had an amazing time, even though they did get lost and had to rely on Jon’s iPhone to get them back to their car.
A year later, the couple woke up and went for a bike ride around their neighborhood in Auburn. As they were nearing home, Jon mentioned that he wanted to take a hike later that day. “I thought that it was excessive amount of exercise for one day, but I agreed because he said he’d buy us lunch at one of our favorite sandwich shops nearby,” Meghan says.
The couple set off, and ended up at Thorncrag. They hiked all the way to the top of the mountain, stopping at the same place they had stopped exactly a year before. Jon got down on one knee and proposed.
“I had an idea that he would propose sometime soon as I knew he had a ring,” Meghan says. “But I didn’t think it would be that day!”
The couple decided on a Lucerne Inn wedding. “Jon used to go there when he attended UMaine in Orono and raved about the food,” Meghan says. “We fell in love with the amazing view!”
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about her big day. Here’s what Meghan said…
I didn’t realize
…how much I would truly enjoy planning the wedding.
One of my favorite moments was
…stepping back with my husband during the reception and watching all of our family and friends dance the night away. We felt so lucky.
I’m glad that
…I put thought into every aspect of my wedding, because I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
I really liked
…that everyone had fun. That was the most important thing to us.
