Caitlin and her family, who lived in Boise, Idaho, would visit China Lake in Maine each summer. Her family own property that is very close to Zach’s family’s property. Each summer, Caitlin and Zach would spend time together, growing up together on a beautiful lake in Maine.
After Zach asked Caitlin’s dad for permission, and with help from her sister, Toni, Zach proposed. “I was a nervous wreck!” he says. “I somehow pushed out ‘Will you marry me?’ through choked up tears. There was not a doubt in my mind that she would say yes, but it was the most nerve wracking thing I have ever done.”
The couple, who now live in Arizona, decided to get married back in Maine where their love story began. “Our families still have the same properties on the lake and we still go every summer,” Caitlin says.
But instead of a lake they decided to get married by the sea—at Sebasco Harbor Resort. Caitlin and Zach arrived in Maine a week before their big day. Family and friends pitched in to put the finishing touches on their décor for their celebration. “That made the whole wedding experience that much less stressful,” Caitlin says.
On the morning of the wedding, Caitlin spent time in the spa drinking mimosas, listening to music, and getting ready with her bridesmaids. Zach spent most of the day catching up with friends and family around the resort. The couple exchanged letters with each other before their ‘first look.’
“The wedding crew at Sebasco, who were flawless, had a spot on the rocky shoreline picked out for our ‘first look,’” Zach says. “As we were back to back, out photographer had us exchange our letters. When were done reading, we turned around. It was amazing. Caitlin was radiant! Beautiful beyond anything I could have imagined.” The couple hopped aboard a golf cart and joined their photographer, Jessica from Lost in Reverie, for some more photos.
The couple decided to take all of their formal photos with family and wedding party before the ceremony, which gave them more time to enjoy the reception. The ceremony was short and sweet and led right into the cocktail hour. “We excluded a few of the traditional events out of our reception—like the garter and bouquet toss—to have more time to party,” Caitlin says.
After a night of dining and dancing, guests met at the resort pub for an after hour celebration, prolonging the celebration further. “I wish we could do our wedding weekend all over again!” Caitlin says.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Caitlin said…
I didn’t realize
…how much fun we were going to have! Most weddings are stressful for the bride and groom. Our families have known each other for years, so it was like a big party! Our family, friends, and the amazing staff at the Sebasco Harbor Resort made our wedding weekend stressfree.
One of my favorite moments was
…our ‘first look.’
I’m glad that
…we were able to gather out family and friends together for our special weekend.
My advice to other couples is
…to do what you want. It’s your wedding. Have it the way you want it. There are no wedding rules!
