Maine Wedding • Kristin & Jeff • York

Posted: March 15, 2017

Kristin and her friend Elizabeth were out on the town in Boston one night when they met two dashing gentlemen at the Green Dragon Tavern, Jeff and Mark. They struck up a conversation, shared numbers, and had their first dates soon after. Elizabeth hit it off with Mark and sparks flew between Kristin and Jeff.
Jeff had plans to propose to Kristin during a Valentine’s Day weekend ski trip, but bad weather kept the couple home. While they were relaxing in their apartment, enjoying the snow falling outside their windows, Jeff got down on one knee and proposed.
Kristin, who is from Connecticut, spent all of her summers with her family at Moody Beach in Wells, Maine. “It’s my favorite place, and I had long hoped that when I got married it would be in Maine,” she says. Luckily Jeff, from Massachusetts, had vacationed with his family in Wells for many years, and loved the area as much as Kristin did. They started planning their Maine wedding in the coastal town of York!
While they were planning a seaside wedding, the couple didn’t want to go overboard on a nautical theme. “We wanted the look to be neutral and natural and airy with hints of metallic,” Kristin says. “We wanted small hints of the ocean without being to theme-y.” Two special touches they added to their big day had to do with shells and fishing. Kristen and her mom painted the inside of oyster shells gold and place one at each table setting. “My mom lovingly shucked and painted over 100 oyster shells!” Kristen says. The other special touch had to do with the men’s boutonnieres. “Jeff, his dad, and my dad are all avid saltwater fly fishermen, and I’ve always loved the flies that they use,” Kristin says. “Jeff’s dad hand-tied fishing flies to serve as the boutonnieres for each of the groomsmen. It was special to have something hand made from each of our parents.”
Kristin and Jeff’s immediate family stayed at the Dockside Guest Quarters to be close to their ceremony and reception site—the Dockside Restaurant. The ladies got ready in the main house, enjoying the large front deck and the view of the harbor.  The gentlemen went to York Beach for lunch and a trip to the arcade before returning to Dockside to get ready. “It was a relaxed day where we got to enjoy the beautiful weather and breath in the salt air and just spend time with our bridal party before the ceremony,” Kristin says.
The ceremony was on the front lawn of the main house, overlooking the harbor. The cocktail hour was also hosted on the front lawn, offering guests beautiful views. After dinner, guests danced the night away. The night ended with Jeff’s cousin Mark ordering dozens of pizzas for everyone to grab a slice for the trip home! Remember Mark? Turns out he and Elizabeth hit it off and now Kristin and Elizabeth are not just friends…they’re family!

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Kristin said…
I wish…we could have a big party in Maine with all of our loved ones every year!
I didn’t realize…how full my heart would feel that day.  There were many moments during the day when I shed tears of joy.  It is so unique to have everyone you love all in one place.
One of my favorite moments was…watching Jeff dance with his mom—melt my heart!
I’m glad that…Jeff and I escaped the reception around sunset to take a few more pictures just the two of us.  The pictures are some of our favorites and it was so special to spend a little time just us and take it all in.
I really liked…our flowers!  Peonies are my favorite flower and I knew I wanted to incorporate them into the bouquets and table arrangements.  I gave our florist, Michelle Rose, a few ideas for what I wanted the arrangements to feel like and she hit it out of the park.  When you walked into the reception, the entire room was filled with the yummy scent of those peonies!
My advice to other couples is… delegate, delegate, delegate!  Jeff’s brother ensured the vendors received their tips, my brother-in-law brought the ladies their lunch, my sister made sure the groomsmen had their boutonnieres and were ready on time, and my friend Elizabeth made sure the gifts were all brought back to our room at the end of the night.  I’m sure I’m forgetting some people who helped us out, but the key is that Jeff and I barely had to lift a finger all day.  We got to just enjoy!
