Caitlin and Eamonn were friends for years before they started dating. But once they took their relationship to the next level…sparks flew!

Eamonn proposed to Caitlin right after the New Year in 2016. “He told me that he had one more Christmas gift for me that had been on back order,” Caitlin says. “When I opened the box it was a new pair of Nike ID sneakers. The back of then said, ‘Marry Me?’”

The couple decided to get married in Portland, Maine. It’s where they live and a relatively central location between Eamonn’s hometown of Caribou, Maine, and Caitlin’s hometown of Lebanon, NH.

Their wedding theme was City Chic. Caitlin is a minimalist who loves clean lines. “I’m drawn to things that are uniquely simple,” she says. “When we toured The Press Hotel we both felt like we could live in the space.”

On the big day, Caitlin woke up in the bridal suite with her childhood best friend and her little girl. Friends, family, and stylists moved in and out of the suite all morning. “It was wonderful keeping my bridal suite open to all family members who wanted to stop in and bid good wishes,” Caitlin says. “My bridal suite has a constant revolving door and the perpetual attention left me on a cloud. I didn’t have a moment to feel any anxiety.”

Eamonn, his best man, and the couple’s fathers enjoyed breakfast in Portland and ran some errands before getting ready for the ceremony. Eamonn and Caitlin met for a “First Look” session on the steps of Portland City Hall.

The ceremony was held in The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. “The ceremony was beautiful and filled with spirit and love,” Caitlin says. Guests were shuttled to the reception at The Press Hotel and enjoyed a cocktail hour while formal photos were taken at the church.

“We had an amazing family-style meal and lots of crazy dancing,” Caitlin says. “The day was a whirlwind from the moment I put on my wedding dress. I’m so thankful for the memories of love and laughter that surrounded us, and that our beyond-talented photographer captured it all!”

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Caitlin said.

I wish…I could press ‘repeat.’

I didn’t realize…just how much fun the day would be and how obsessed I would be with it when it was all over. I was not someone who liked planning a wedding, so I am so happy I let myself relax and enjoy all the moments.

One of my favorite moments was…working with Eamonn’s cousins to choreograph our first dance. It was so ‘us’ and our guests loved it. That moment we will forever have because it is always ours!

I’m glad that…I made my bridesmaids all get a fur/faux fur coat because it was January. It was my only bridezilla request, but they were thankful for it that day!

I really liked…that we dipped into and leaned on the help and skill sets of friends and family. It gave our wedding so many personal touches. I was blown away with the effort people put in and how much love we felt because we allowed others to take charge.

My advice to other couples is…get yourself a day of wedding coordinator or wedding planner. She saved my life and I was able to enjoy my day entirely. I didn’t realize how much there is to think about and she made things happen when they needed to happen and disappear if they weren’t supposed to be there.
