Sabrina and Thom were married in their home state of Maine because Thom doesn’t like to fly. “I was fed up with wedding plans and asked him to jet off to Vegas,” Sabrina says. “He considered it, but his fear of flying paired with our desire to share the day with loved ones kept us close to home.”
Sabrina and Thom met at work at Townsquare Media in Brewer. Thom is the creative director and Sabrina is a senior account executive and co-host of the Z Morning Show on Z107.3.
“We live together. We work together. There is hardly a 24-hour period where we don’t see each other. And we like it that way,” Sabrina says. After living together for a year, the couple decided that marriage was the next step in their relationship. The couple picked out a ring and celebrated with dinner while it was being sized. “The next night we got together with work friends for drinks and Thom stood up and officially proposed! It was perfect for us and we loved sharing the moment with our co-workers.”
The couple decided to hold their winter wedding at the Peakes Hill Lodge in Dedham. Sabrina took advantage of local beauticians, hair stylists, and nail professionals to get prepped for her big day. Sabrina was joined by her bridesmaids; her daughter, Bella; soon-to-be-stepdaughter, Ariel; and friends at Studio 504 and Salon Bonifacio for hair and makeup. “We drank Champagne and laughed and cried,” Sabrina says. “I cried so many happy tears!”
Sabrina and Thom had a first look and all of their formal photos before the ceremony at the historic Hanibal Hamlin house in Bangor. “The mansion was perfect for our photos, and the first look was so exciting,” Sabrina says. “The look on Thom’s face was priceless!”
An acoustic version of “Here Comes the Sun” played while Sabrina and her Dad walked down the aisle. Amber Small from Sweetest Thing Weddings performed the ceremony, which included a reading by Thom’s daughter, Ariel, and a song performed by Sabrina’s friend, Kasie. “Kasie has an amazing voice, and it was nice to just stand there and breathe in Thom’s arms,” Sabrina says. “It felt so nice to pause and enjoy that sweet moment.”
After the ceremony the couple mingled with friends and family before dinner. “The food was delicious!” Sabrina says. “Kellie and the Peakes Hill crew did an amazing job. Sometimes “wedding food” can be awful, but this wasn’t. Everyone raved.”
Dancing, dancing, and more dancing followed dinner. Sabrina, Thom, and their friends headed to Season’s in Bangor after the reception to hear a friend’s band play. “It was Eightysomething’s last gig, and the place was packed!” Sabrina says. “Our friend and lead singer of the band dedicated Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” to us and we danced right up front. It was such a fun moment for us! We are so lucky to have been able to share that night with so many awesome people!”
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Sabrina said…
…I had hired a videographer. I really wish I could watch Thom read his vows again. They were so sweet, honest, and beautiful.
I didn’t realize
…creating a seating chart was so hard. So and so can't sit next to so and so. Will so and so be offended if they aren't close to our table? Who will care? Who won't? What do I do with these random people? I stressed about that for a month!
I’m glad that
…I hired a wedding planner. You can’t plan a wedding on Pinterest, ladies! It’s too overwhelming! Amber from Sweetest Thing Weddings was my sanity.
I really liked
…the cupcakes! I made a cute display out of thrift store glassware and The Purple Pear made us the most delicious and beautiful cupcakes and ceremonial cake I've ever seen! Support small business, people! It warmed my heart to know that one woman made those for us in the same kitchen she prepares dinner for her family each night.
My advice for other couples is
…do what is uniquely YOU! We didn't want to incorporate certain traditions like the entrance, receiving line, dollar dance, bouquet and garter toss, father-daughter dance, etc., so we didn't. Everyone still had a blast. I was worried at first that people would find it odd. Who cares? It was OUR party! It was awesome!
