Mickenzie enlisted the help of his daughter when he proposed to her mom, Kara.
The day before Kara’s 21st birthday, she was at a hair appointment that was running long. Mickenzie kept texting her, wondering when she was going to be home. He had told her that he was planning on taking her out to a surprise birthday dinner that night. But when she arrived home, a whole different surprise greeted her at the door.
“I walked through the door to see our daughter, Kami, smiling ear to ear, with her daddy close by,” Kara says. “With roses in hand, and down on one knee, I couldn’t believe what was happening. He had finally asked. After four years of dating, a daughter, and many laughs, I was going to be a bride.”
Kara and Mickenzie were high school sweethearts. They were only dating a few months before Kara found out she was pregnant. "We've been together ever since," she says. "We bought a house and are raising our beautiful and smart little girl, our flower girl, Kami Ann."
Since they both grew up in small towns, she in Greenbush and he in Winn, they knew they wanted to stay local for their wedding celebration.
The couple made almost all of the decorations themselves and were wed in Mickenzie’s uncle’s field. Their reception was held under the lights in an airplane hangar. Their dream of a rustic country wedding had come true. “I didn’t realize how much the day would truly mean to me,” Kara says. “It was everything I wanted, and more.”
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Kara says…
…I had enjoyed the setting up of the wedding more. It seemed to be tedious at the time, but looking back, it was all so worth it.
I’m glad that
…it stopped raining hours before the wedding, as our hay bale seating would have been so successful in the rain.
I really liked
…that our day was unique to us.
