Diana and Luigi met in 2005 at work. Diana had just joined Deutch, an advertising agency in New York City, and Luigi was four-year veteran employee. After weeks of waving “hi!” and “bye!” Luigi asked Diana to lunch at the diner across the street. It was a real New York moment that grew into so much more.

On January 21, 2012, Diana planned a surprise birthday party for Luigi at one of their favorite New York City nightclubs. She invited their families and friends. Keeping it a surprise wasn’t easy.

But when the day finally arrived, it was a surprise—for both Luigi and Diana. The party was a success and everything was going perfectly. Just as Luigi started to thank Diana for planning such an amazing event, he reached into his pocket, got down on one knee, and proposed in front of everyone.

Diana, who is from Edgcomb, Maine, started planning her coastal chic wedding. “There is nothing quite like the coast of Maine,” Diana says. “It’s close to our hearts.” They held their wedding ceremony at the Edgecomb Congregational Church in Diana’s home town, and their reception at the Harraseeket Inn in nearby Freeport.

“I wish we could do it all over again,” Diana says. “It was truly the most special day of our lives, spent with everyone we love. It was a surreal feeling from beginning to end—putting on makeup to playing with sparklers.”

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Diana said…

One of my favorite moments was…waking up on the morning of the big day. It took forever to fall asleep, and just when I felt like I was sound asleep, my matron of honor was at the door, breakfast trays were rolling in, and the hair stylist, makeup artist, photographer, and videographer arrived. Showtime!

I’m glad that…we took dance lessons. It helped knowing we had something to focus on that first husband and wife introduction. We didn’t want to just turn in circles, and I was a bit obsessed with the Hollywood dip finale.

I really liked…seeing our family and friends together, especially those who had never been to Maine, having a blast! It was an incredible sight to see our friends from all aspects of life standing together in the driveway of the house I grew up in—unforgettable!

My advice to other couples is…to start planning early and delegate projects to those who want to help. Knowing that so many wonderful people contributed to our day made it even more special.
