Maine Wedding • Cori & Paul • Peaks Island

Posted: March 12, 2014

Cori and Paul would take annual trips to Vacationland from their home in Brooklyn, New York. Paul decided to make their trip to Portland, Maine over Fourth of July weekend in 2011 one for the record books.

The couple decided to take the ferry to Peaks Island, a spot they hadn’t previously explored before. Once they landed on the island, they rented two bikes to ride to venture around the island. Paul’s idea was to ride around the island twice. On the first loop, he’d find the perfect location to pop the question. On the second, he’d actually do it.

“You know how we always talk about getting married in Maine?” Paul asked her. “Well, maybe we should get engaged in Maine first.”

The couple realized that no matter where they had their wedding, it was going to be a destination location for at least half of their guests. “In the end, we decided to make it a destination for everyone,” Cori says. “We really wanted to share our love of Maine with our friends and family, many of whom had never been to Maine before, and it ended up working out perfectly.”

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Cori said…

I didn’t realize…how little I would care about the small stuff on the day of my wedding. After all of the planning, you really want things to be perfect, but it was awesome to just let go and let the day play out.

One of my favorite moments was…our first look. We met at the spot on Peaks Island where Paul proposed, and it was the best feeling to have that special alone time before the ceremony.

I’m glad that…we lucked out with the weather. Our venue was so perfect for taking in the sunset and the fact that we had such a nice evening really made the scene spectacular.

I really liked…having the opportunity to share our love of Maine with friends and family.
