Maine Wedding • Rebecca & Bryce • Northeast Harbor

Posted: March 06, 2013

After a snowstorm delayed the delivery of Rebecca’s engagement ring to the couple’s home in Washington, D.C., Bryce had the company reroute the ring to Maine, where he proposed to Rebecca in her childhood bedroom on Christmas Day.

“Born and raised in Maine, Mount Desert Island has long been my favorite spot in the state,” Rebecca says. Once the couple decided on an MDI wedding in Northeast Harbor, the Asticou Inn was the logistical choice. “The Asticou was large enough to house most of our guests and enabled us to have the ceremony and reception on site.”
The couple’s border terriers, Fenway and Wrigley, served as the couple’s ring bearers and stole the show while trotting down the aisle. Since the dogs couldn’t attend the reception, Rebecca and Bryce named their signature drinks “Wrigley’s Whipped Dreams” and “Fenway Fizz” after their furry friends.

In Her Words
We asked Rebecca more about her big day. Here’s what she had to say…
I wish…I had done the seating chart before the wedding. My bridesmaids were writing table numbers onto place cards up until the last minute.
I didn’t realize…that getting married on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend would have been such a great idea. Having the wedding on a Sunday allowed our guests to explore Mount Desert Island, get their lobster fix, and explore Maine.
One of my favorite moments was…the informal lunch my aunts threw for us and our guests on Little Cranberry Island the day before the wedding and watching my little brother help my father finish his welcome speech at the reception.
I’m glad that…the fog lifted—though Brea McDonald took some amazing foggy day wedding shots.
I really liked…that we did a first look. Seeing each other before the ceremony let us soak it all in and we enjoyed some “couple time” before the madness began.
My advice to other brides is…to make sure your wedding feels like you and your tastes.
