Abbie and Cody’s proposal was simple and intimate. The couple took their dog for a walk through their favorite park, and when the park cleared and they were alone, Cody got down on one knee and asked Abbie to marry him.
The couple met through mutual friends while Abbie was in veterinary school in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Originally from Castine, Maine, Abbie had always envisioned getting married at home. “There is no more beautiful time in Maine than in the summer, so we agreed a wedding in June in Maine would be perfect,” Abbie says.
Abbie and Cody planned a very small, intimate wedding with their closest friends and family. They held their ceremony and cocktail reception at The Manor Inn in Castine. Their brief ceremony included Abbie walking down the aisle to “Claire de Lune” by Debussy and her grandfather reading “I Carry Your Heart” by e.e. Cummings.
A cocktail reception followed the ceremony. “We opted not to do a large reception with dancing in favor of letting our guests mingle as they pleased and connected with our friends later on,” Abbie says.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Abbie said…
…everyone could have as special and intimate a wedding as we did. It was truly perfect.
I didn’t realize
…how emotional it would be. Waterproof makeup was a must!
One of my favorite moments was
…the first look. It gave Cody and I a chance to see each other without a lot of people around. Many a happy tear was shed.
…that we kept the wedding small. It was really important to us that the wedding did not get very large. I think it made it that much more memorable.
I really liked
…the location. Being able to have the wedding and reception at the same place made for an easy transition.
My advice to other couples is
…to go with what YOU want for your wedding. There are lots of people with advice and things that they would like for your day, but all that matters is what is important to you.
