Melissa, from Lewiston, Maine, and Joe, from Londonderry, New Hampshire, met on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. After graduation, the couple moved to Boston to start their lives together.
For Melissa’s birthday, Joe rented out a small screening room at their local independent movie theater, the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts. He had arranged for them to watch the movie the couple had seen on their very first date. At the end of the movie, Joe proposed. Their families were let in on the surprise, and met the couple for a celebratory dinner right after Melissa said yes.
The decision to get married in Maine was an easy one for them to make. “We both love Maine’s authenticity and understated beauty,” Melissa says. “We were especially taken with the unique, laid back spirit of the Midcoast.”
The couple stayed true to themselves when planning their wedding, and created a simple Maine barn event that focused on spending time with friends and family.
One of Melissa’s favorite moments of the day was when the sun came out for the first time in several days during their cocktail hour. “Our friend and groomsman, Ryan, was singing and playing the guitar, out best friends and family members were playing lawn games, everyone was enjoying great food and drinks, and then the fog just lifted and the sun came out,” she says. “There is nothing quite like the light after the rain!”
