Maine Wedding • Katie & Peter • Old Orchard Beach

Posted: January 14, 2015

With the help of Katie’s sister, Peter orchestrated a surprise proposal on the beach in Old Orchard Beach. Katie found him there, waiting for her with roses, candles, and a boom box blasting Adam Sandler’s “I Wanna Grow Old With You” from Katie’s favorite movie, “The Wedding Singer.”

Katie, who grew up in Connecticut, had been visiting Maine with her family since she was 12. Her parents bought a house in Ocean Park, which is where the couple’s reception was held. “It’s always felt like home to me,” Katie says. “Our first trip together was visiting my parents there and Peter, who grew up in New York and loves the sea, fell in love with Maine as well.”

Katie spent a lot of time adding personal touches to the big day. She framed her favorite quotes and placed them on every table at the reception. The couple served burgers and other foods one would find on the Old Orchard Beach Pier. Katie and Peter’s mothers collected vintage china for the place settings, and Peter’s grandpa officiated the ceremony on the beach.

The couple’s ceremony was very personal and emotional. “Walking down the aisle was incredibly overwhelming, but the best part of the day,” Katie says.

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Katie said…

I wish…I hadn’t let so many things stress me out during planning, especially arguments with family about the guest list.

I didn’t realize…how much fun I would have. I had a pretty good feeling the ceremony would be emotional, and it was, but I expected the reception to be a bit stressful trying to talk to everyone. I ended up having so much fun catching up with old friends and family, and then we danced like crazy all night long. Our dance floor was definitely not big enough!

One of my favorite moments was…seeing Peter’s face when I walked down the aisle. We were both so overwhelmed with joy and I could see it in his expression.

I really liked…everything! It couldn’t have gone better. My dream came to life and it was truly the best day ever.
