When Eliza was a child, her family made the trek from their home in Pennsylvania to Maine every summer for vacation. “It’s become a very special place to me over the years,” Eliza says. “As soon as we cross the state border, my stress melts away!”
When her boyfriend proposed on Valentine’s Day, it was easy for Eliza to start planning her dream wedding—in Vacationland.
The couple decided to have a small, family wedding. With her family from Pennsylvania and his from Minnesota, everyone had to travel to South Bristol for the event. “We rented two houses down the street from each other—which took up a majority of the wedding budget—and offered them to our family for a week,” Eliza says. “Most people were unable to stay the whole time, but it made coming and going easier.”
Eliza was glad that she and Toby had decided on a small, intimate gathering. “It’s not for everyone,” she says, “but one of the greatest advantages was that we were able to see and converse with every guest.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about her big day. Here’s what Eliza said…
…that I could live it all over again! The day was so perfect, I wouldn’t change a thing.
I didn’t realize
…how quickly the day would fly by. The wedding and reception happened in a flash.
One of my favorite moments was
…when my husband spoke to me during the ceremony before our vows and told me how much he loved me. I had been so caught up in the planning that I was caught totally off-guard by the sweetness of the gesture. I’m glad I wasn’t obligated to speak myself, because I was so teary-eyed that I wouldn’t have been able to get the words out!
I really liked
…my vendors! Good vendors are so important. I worked hard to select all of my vendors and every one of them exceeded my expectations. I am so thankful for their wonderful work.
My advice to other brides is
…don’t be afraid to buck tradition in whatever ways you may want. Doing things a little different often makes them special.
