Bridget and Josh first set eyes on each other on an eighth grade field trip to New York City. “He was the cute boy from the middle school across town,” Bridget says.
They started dating during their freshman year of high school in South Portland. They’ve been together ever since.
The couple moved to Charlotte, North Carolina after graduating from college. On a trip to a nearby beach, Josh got down on one knee in the sand and proposed. “He said he proposed right when we got there because he was too nervous to wait,” Bridget says. “He booked us a room at a very cute bed and breakfast and we spent the weekend celebrating.”
Since most of Bridget and Josh’s family and friends were from Maine, they decided to return home to tie the knot. They held their wedding ceremony at Pemaquid Point Light House in New Harbor, Maine, and their reception nearby at The Contented Sole.
“We wanted an elegant wedding, but not too fancy,” Bridget says. “We wanted it to be comfortable and fun. We went with a beachy/coastal theme with a shabby chic twist.”
Since the couple was traveling a great distance for their wedding, they wanted to make the most of their time in Maine. They rented out the entire Bradley Inn for their entire bridal party so that their family and friends could be together and celebrate all weekend long. “Many of our family members stayed at another bed and breakfast right down the street,” Bridget says. “Our friends still talk about this being their favorite part of the wedding.”
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about the big day. Here’s what Bridget said…
…that it hadn’t gone by so fast.
I didn’t realize
…just how much goes in to planning a wedding! Planning a wedding from another state was a little tricky. My mother and sister, who live in Maine, were a huge help!
One of my favorite moments was
…our rehearsal dinner. We had dinner at the Bradley Inn and then spent the night around a bonfire making s’mores and catching up with family and friends.
I’m glad that
…we decided to get married on the coast of Maine. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and having the ocean as a backdrop was perfect.
I really liked
…the vendors that we worked with. Photographer Carrie Pellerin and her husband Eddie were great and captured all my favorite moments of the day. Our DJ was amazing! I don’t think we were off the dance floor for more than an hour all night.
My advice to other couples is
…to go with the flow. Little things are going to go wrong and in the end they’re not going to matter. What Josh and I remember most is celebrating with all of our family and friends. We remember laughing, dancing, and celebrating.
