Jessica met Anthony when she was looking to buy a new car. She ended up getting more than she bargained for! From the moment she stepped foot inside the dealership, Anthony knew he wanted to take her out for coffee. After a month, she finally caved and the two had their first dinner date. They’ve been together ever since.

Anthony proposed, with the help of his five year old daughter, during a family trip to Old Orchard Beach. “My parents were in on the secret,” Jessica says. “I was under the impression that we were just going to the beach for the day!” After a morning of playing games and going on rides, the group decided to spend the afternoon on the beach so that Anthony and his daughter Natalie could make a sand castle. “Natalie asked me to help them, but informed me that I was only allowed to dig in ONE spot,” Jessica says. She started digging and found a message in a bottle. “I opened it and read the heartwarming confession of love that ended with ‘Will you marry me?’ I looked up and Anthony was on one knee with a ring in his hand.”

Jessica, who is from Old Town, Maine, and Anthony, who has lived in Maine for 13 years, decided to get married in Bar Harbor. “We both love the natural beauty of Maine and knew we wanted to be married outdoors,” Jessica says. “Anthony proposed on the ocean, so it only seemed appropriate that we got married overlooking the sea.”

The night before the wedding, Jessica and Anthony stayed in adjoining rooms at the Harborside Inn. “We had to do a lot of coordinating to make certain we weren’t going to leave our rooms at the same time,” Jessica says. “We chose not to do a “first look” but decided to exchange gifts around the corner instead. It felt so good to hear his voice and touch his hand. I wanted so badly to jump around the corner and hug him, but I knew I wasn’t allowed.”

Seeing Anthony as she was walking down the aisle is one of Jessica’s favorite wedding day moments. “Anthony is usually a pretty calm, collected guy, but you could tell that his emotions were getting to him that day,” Jessica says. “We have a photo of his face when he saw me for the first time, and it warms my heart every time I see it.”

In Her Words
We asked the bride more about their big day. Here’s what Jessica said…

I wish…I could do it all over again, in slow motion. They day seemed to fly by in a blink. You spend forever planning and dreaming up every moment, but in the end it’s over before you know it.

I didn’t realize…how much has to be done for a wedding. Up until the very last moment, I was thinking of things I had to do. In the end, you’ll realize that all of the little things don’t matter as much as you thought they would.

One of my favorite moments was…when Anthony and I were able to sneak away with our photographer during the cocktail hour. It was the first moment we were able to enjoy each other that day.

I’m glad that…I had so many amazing people to help us—not only on our wedding day but all the days leading up to it. Our DJ and photographer were such big help. On top of our wedding planner that we had through the Bar Harbor Club, it was like having an additional two wedding planners. I was so clueless the day of our wedding and they made certain that everything went off without a hitch.

My advice to other couples is…to just breathe. At times it might seem like you are trying to attempt the impossible. Don’t forget to enjoy each other during the planning and the months leading up to your wedding day. Planning a wedding can be an exhausting task, but if you allow it, it can be one of the most exciting times in your life. Enjoy it together!
