Maine Wedding • Jessica & Jonathan • Portland

Posted: February 13, 2013

Having special craft-brewed beer at your wedding is becoming more and more popular in Maine. Serving beer you brewed yourself, like this groom did, takes the cake.

Jonathan owns Compo Hill Brewing Company in his hometown of Westport, Connecticut. The inaugural batch of NutpuALE was brewed for a wedding reception. It became the company’s first vintage series. Serving NuptuALE at their wedding was a no brainer for this couple.

Jonathan and Jessica were introduced by a mutual friend during the Fourth of July fireworks in Westport, Connecticut. Two years later, Jonathan proposed on the beach at the same Fourth of July celebration where the couple had first met.

The couple chose to get married in Portland’s Old Port district on New Year’s Eve. “The Old Port is such a wonderful place to share with family and friends,” Jessica says. “I love the fact that we got married and had our cocktail hour and reception all within the same place. The Portland Company is an old steel factory, so we brought in all of the design elements. I really loved being able to create the space from scratch.”

Jessica had some help creating that space. She hired Meghan Rathmell Torrieri of bmerry events to help plan her Maine wedding. “She was nothing short of amazing,” Jessica says. “She was so relaxed and open to hearing any crazy idea I had. Meghan was on top of everything.”

The color palate of their wedding was chosen to compliment the space and Emily from Emily Carter Floral Designs worked within the scheme. “Our florist was amazing,” Jessica says. “I can’t say enough good things about her.”

In Her Words
We asked the bride a little more about her big day. Here’s what Jessica said…

I wish…the night had gone by more slowly—it went too fast.

I didn’t realize…how much I would enjoy planning everything.

One of my favorite moments was…Jonathan’s speech. He wrote it that morning and was so relaxed and well spoken—it was like he had practiced it for weeks.

I’m glad that…we designed the space exactly as we wanted it.

I really liked…ringing in the New Year surrounded by family and dear friends.

My advice to other brides is…that the wedding is about more than you or you husband to be—it’s about everyone that comes together to celebrate your union. Listen to the things that are important to your parents, especially, and take a moment to ask yourself, “Does it make me happier to not give in on this or is making someone I love more important?” Your wedding is a special day, but relationships are for a lifetime.
