On a romantic winter weekend getaway to Bar Harbor, Justin asked Debbie to marry him. “We love visiting Bar Harbor, whether to walk downtown or hike up Cadillac Mountain,” Debbie says. “We had planned on going snowshoeing in Acadia National Park, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. Instead we went to dinner at Geddy’s. Justin was too nervous at dinner to pop the question, so he asked me to marry hi when we returned to the hotel.”
The couple, who live in Saco, started planning their dream wedding on a budget. “We were able to create a beautiful day on a budget of $5,500!” Debbie says.
During their wedding ceremony at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford, Father LaBarre asked Justin why he wanted to marry Debbie. His answer? “Because she’s awesome!”
Before heading to the Saco Elks Lodge for their reception, the couple and photographer Chad Doyon took photos at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. “Our photographer encouraged us to have a day after photo shoot,” Debbie says. “We were able to snag some really great photos without feeling rushed.”
The couple prepared a fun surprise for their wedding guests during their first dance. “We started dancing to “Angel” by Jack Johnson,” Debbie says. “Midway through the sone, our DJ started playing “Gagnam Style” by Psy. The look on our guests’ faces was priceless! It was the perfect moment!”
In Debbie’s Words
We asked the bride more about their big day. Here’s what Debbie said…
I didn’t realize
…the day would go by so quickly.
I really liked
…our wedding favors—strawberry jam. Justin’s father was known as the “Jelly Man.” He would make jelly and distribute it to family in friends. In honor of his father and with the help of a dear friend, we were able to make our own batch of strawberry jam as our wedding favors.
My advice to other couples is
…you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make your day beautiful.
