Kate and Linwood, who are both from East Millinocket, decided to have their wedding where they first met…right at home!
The couple went to the same elementary school for a few years before both families moved. Kate and Linwood didn’t reconnect until Kate connected with him via Facebook. He was stationed with the Army in Colorado and Kate wanted to practice nursing there. While Linwood was deployed to Iraq, he and Kate emailed every day. When he finally got home, Kate decided to visit. After a weekend ski trip and a new puppy, they fell in love.
The couple eventually moved to Georgia for Linwood’s job. On a cool October day in Atlanta, he asked Kate to marry him. “We went out for a nice lunch and spent the afternoon in Piedmont Park,” Kate says. After dinner and a glass of wine, the conversation turned to engagement rings.
“I started talking about people who buy their engagement ring at the same time as their wedding band, having absolutely no clue he had a ring in his pocket,” Kate says. Linwood casually changed the subject to their relationship, and got down on one knee.
“We both have very large families who are very important to us,” Kate says. “The majority of them live in Maine!” In order for most of their families to attend their wedding, they started planning their wedding at the New England Outdoor Center near their hometown.
“Our wedding was on the perfect August day in Maine!” Kate says. “The wind calmed down and it was in the mid 70s. The lake was perfectly still.” About 150 of their family and friends gathered on the shore for their ceremony. Once the music started, everyone danced the night away under a tent.
In Her Words
We asked the bride more about her big day. Here’s what Kate had to say…
…the night had not gone by so fast!
I didn’t realize
…just how amazing it would be to get the most important people of both our lives together at once. The most supportive and loving people, all under one tent, was just so special to us.
One of my favorite moments was
…when they played the Star Spangled Banner for our exit song.
I’m glad that
…so many of our friends got to be there for the big day! We decided to have our wedding in Maine because it was close for our family, but most of our friends are from the southeast. It was exciting to show everyone how great Maine really is!
I really liked
…that the location was all encompassing. The cabins, ceremony, and reception were all at the same location. Once people got there at the beginning of the weekend, no one had to leave!
My advice to other couples is
…to relax and enjoy the day! All the planning is done so anything that may go wrong on the big day is really not a huge deal. At the end of the day you’re still getting to marry your best friend.
