The husband and wife team of Ryan and Brandi create authentic images for their wedding clients.
How did you get started in photography?
Ryan was a sports photographer in high school and college. After college a friend from high school asked him to photograph her wedding. He reluctantly agreed and volunteered Brandi to help him. From that moment on they were hooked on weddings and never looked back.
What do you love about wedding photography?
We love the spontaneity of a wedding. There are months and months of planning that go into a wedding leading up to the day and it can go exactly as planned or it can take its own course. We love being close enough to the couple to capture all those emotions and help them where and when we can.
What is the biggest challenge you face when shooting a wedding?
If every wedding were easy, it would take a lot of the fun out of photographing a wedding. There isn’t one portion of the day that we are always challenged with. For us, overcoming the challenge is part of the fun – especially if we can overcome it without our couple even knowing!
What should clients know about your style of photography?
We call our style ‘Authentic Photography.’ What happens during the day is what you receive in your final images. Our goal with our photography is for you to remember the day as it happened. There are moments that we will pose, but for the most part we prefer to stand back and watch the day unfold. We capture the moments big, small, and the ones you didn’t know happened at all.
When you're not behind the camera, what do you like to do?
We’re big foodies! We love to try out new restaurants and day-trip it to new places. Anytime we find a “best of” list we take that as a personal challenge. We enjoy traveling, but have yet to make it out of the country together. We can find the most interesting things to do in sometimes the most uninteresting places. Most of all, we love a good relaxing weekend at home with our boys Murphy and Melvin, two French Bulldogs.
How can the couple help YOU on their wedding day?
We like to think that we are there to help the couple on their wedding day. We know what our couples are going through, we’ve been in their shoes. We’ve also been fortunate to attend a wedding or two! We’re happy to provide a suggestion if you’re stuck on something or struggling to make an idea come together. You can help us by letting us help you.
How has your photography style changed over the years?
We have become much better at observing and anticipating the next move, so we are able to capture moments that the couple may not know existed if we were not there with our cameras. Those are always the most impactful images when our couples are looking at their images. We now spend less time worrying about elaborate poses and really let the couples interact with each other like they would if there wasn’t a camera in the room, and that’s where our authentic style was born.
What sorts of things inspire you when you pick up your camera?
Honestly, weddings inspire us. We don’t pick up our cameras often outside of weddings – unless you count Instagram. What truly gets us inspired is a wedding – a couple that we have gotten to know, getting married, and spending the rest of their lives together. We challenge ourselves at every wedding to try something new or look at something a different way, and that drive to push ourselves and desire to please a client we have spent so much time getting to know is inspiration enough.
Where will your business be in the next 5 years?
Honestly, we’re not sure. What we do know for sure is that we will continue to be the best photographers that we can be and we will continue to do everything we can to help our couples have the best wedding possible. After all this is their dream wedding, we are just there to help them remember it.
