When Jessie Dineen isn't photographing happy couples through Jessie Dineen Photography
, she's enjoing the great state of Maine with her family!
How did you get started in photography?
I’ve always had an itch for photography. Photography class in high school was my favorite class by far. I absolutely loved the dark room! It continued to be a hobby after high school and throughout my college years in Maine. It wasn’t until I met my sister-in-law, who worked at a studio, that I thought I could make a career out of this! Simply enjoying what I thought was a “hobby”, I began shooting sessions for family and friends and my business grew from there. I invested in taking classes, workshops, and committed to learning as much as I possibly could about the artistic and business side of the photography world.
What do you love about wedding photography?
I love the pace and pressure of documenting every aspect of the day for the couple and their families. Watching the couple in love, the happy wedding guests, and pulling in the beautiful details in order to tell the story of a wedding day is something that will never get old! Each couple’s love story is unique, giving their wedding day its own character and charm. I feel honored to capture such a momentous life event for the couples that I work with.
What is the biggest challenge you face when shooting a wedding?
Light! Light is the biggest challenge and the greatest reward of every wedding that I shoot. I use natural light until the last possible second of the wedding day. I am always striving to find that perfect light that will make the images the best they can be. Sometimes that light is right in front of me and other times I search and work a little harder to ensure I capture the most beautiful photography for my couples!
What should clients know about your style of photography?
Capturing genuine, true emotion is of utmost importance on the wedding day, so I aim for as natural a look as possible. I want the clients to look back on their photographs and feel exactly how they felt in that moment. I also love capturing the beauty around my couples. Whether their ceremony is in the middle of the woods or on Maine’s rocky coast, I aim to capture not only the couples beautiful love but the amazing landscapes around them.
When you're not behind the camera, what do you like to do?
I love being with my husband and two children! We try to be outside as much as possibly, enjoying all of Maine’s beauty.
How can the couple help YOU on their wedding day?
Have fun and be yourself! This is one of the best days of your life and I want you to be present for every single moment—soak it all in!
How has your photography style changed over the years?
While I enjoy experimenting a bit with angles and techniques to keep myself evolving and growing as a professional photographer, I feel my photography style has remained consistent over the years. I strive to have an overall natural feel to my photos.
What sorts of things inspire you when you pick up your camera?
I am inspired by raw emotion. From laughter to tears and everything in between…although, I prefer happy tears! Also, natural light that falls on amazing landscapes–when the light is sparkling through the trees or glistening off the water at the “perfect time” I cannot stop shooting.
Where will your business be in the next 5 years?
I am fully committed to innovating and growing my business in the state of Maine and throughout New England. In the next 5 years I hope to expand my wedding photography services as well as my newborn and family portfolios. I find myself incredibly lucky to have the beautiful state of Maine as a backdrop to much of my work and I look forward to many more years of doing something I am so passionate about.
