Even though Abbi and Tanner grew up together in Yarmouth, they didn’t get to really know each other until after they had both graduated from college and returned home. They were reintroduced by mutual friends and soon began dating.
Abbi knew almost instantly he was the one for her. “Simply put, Tanner is the best person I’ve ever met,” she says. Tanner knew right away, too. “It was obvious that she was the perfect match for me in every way,” he says. “She is smart, beautiful, independent, and fun. But her sense of humor and the way that we can interact with each other keeps us laughing all day.”
Tanner decided to propose during a weekend hiking trip near Tanner’s family’s hunting and fishing lodge near the Bigelow range in western Maine. The couple had cozied up in their tent after a day of hiking when Tanner pulled the ring out from his sleeping bag and asked Abbi to marry him.
The couple decided to have their engagement photos taken at Tanner’s family camp—a place they consider to be their second home. “Bethany and Dan encouraged us to pick a meaningful spot where we’d feel comfortable,” Abbi says. “We couldn’t have been more grateful to them or happier with the final result!
