It’s an all-American story: high school cheerleader falls in love with a football player. Boy joins the military and serves his country, leaving behind his young love.
After Roy’s first tour of duty, he returned home to reconnect with Linsay. The love they shared in high school clearly hadn’t ever really ended. While Roy was away on his second tour of duty, Linsay welcomed their first child—a boy—into the world. A little girl would follow.
“Roy proposed to me on Christmas night after we had gotten into our pajamas,” Linsay says. “We were watching our kids play with their new toys when he left the room for a moment, only to return to tell me that there was one more gift he had for me.” Not getting the hint, Linsay said, “But I don’t have anymore for you!” Roy just smiled, offered Linsay a ring box, got down on one knee, and proposed.
“I was so excited I just kept saying, ‘Are you kidding me?’ The kids joined in on the commotion and I eventually said ‘Yes!’” The couple, who will get married in August 2013, had their engagement photos taken at an old mill in Vassalboro.
