Emily and Tom met on Match.com shortly after Tom had moved from Maine to New Jersey. They exchanged a few emails and texts before meeting up for a drink. The couple quickly learned that they could spend hours talking and shared the same sense of humor.
“I knew Tom was the one for me early on,” Emily says. “About a month after we started dating we spent Easter with Tom’s family and then celebrated my dad’s birthday with mine. In the past I would have hesitated to bring someone home to meet my parents or get too involved with someone else’s family, but with Tom it was so easy.”
It was the couple’s decision to move to Maine that brought their relationship to the next level. He proposed at their home in York. “The night before he proposed he asked me if I wanted to get up early for a motorcycle ride and to watch the sunrise at Long Sands Beach,” Emily says. “Thinking a proposal may be coming I woke up at 5:30 a.m. so excited for what might be happening.” The couple headed to the beach for a magnificent sunrise and lingered for a while before heading home. Since he hadn’t popped the question, Emily figured it was a false alarm. “But after being home for a bit Tom asked me out on the porch where we talked about our move to Maine and our relationship.” He asked her to marry him and she said, “Yes!”
The couple chose to have their engagement photos taken in York Harbor. “On one of our first trips to York while dating we stopped at the Wiggly Bridge and its always felt like a special spot to us,” Emily says. Their wedding reception will be held right across the water at the Dockside Restaurant. The couple also headed to Long Sands Beach, which is about a mile from their house. “We wanted to capture how beautiful the Maine coast is.”
