Scott Viafore had big plans to sweep Danni Mandra off her feet on their first date. He packed a basket with all of Danni’s favorite foods and took her on a picnic near her apartment. He even surprised her with wine he had made himself! “It was the most thoughtful and romantic first date I had ever been on!” Danni says. “I called my mom right after our picnic and told her there was something different about this guy.”
Besides making his own wine and beer, one of Scott’s little-known passions is learning magic tricks. “The night he proposed he took me to our favorite local restaurant and asked if I could hand him the ring I was wearing,” Danni says. He made her ring disappear and in its place appeared an engagement ring!
Danni and Scott, who live in Duxbury, Massachusetts, decided to host a weekend-long wedding event at the Newagen Seaside Inn in Southport, Maine. “We were looking for a place that had beautiful scenery, could accommodate a large number of our guests on site, and that would allow us to host our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and after party all on one property,” Danni says. “The Newagen met all of these criteria, plus their staff were so friendly and easy to work with!”
It was freezing the day before Danni and Scott’s wedding, and rained cats and dogs the day after, but on their day-of, the sun was shining and the couple was blessed with 70-degree weather. Danni had worked hard to plan every little detail and made sure their families, wedding party, and vendors were all on the same page the weeks leading up to the wedding so there was nothing to worry about on the big day.
“My favorite part of the day by far was our ceremony,” Danni says. “I loved the way my dress, veil, bouquet, makeup, and hair came together and have never felt more beautiful than I did walking down the aisle to marry the man of my dreams.” Getting married right on the water provided an incredible scenic backdrop.
After the ceremony, the couple slipped away with their photographer while guests enjoyed a cocktail hour on the lawn before heading inside to the reception. “The best part about our crowd is that they love a good party, so everyone was ready to go!” Danni says. The bride and groom started out with their first dance to “Danny’s Song” by Loggins and Messina, and then invited everyone on to the dance floor and the band transitioned to “Shut up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. “It was a great way to get the party started and created a really high-energy atmosphere.” After that the only time the dance floor wasn’t packed was during the speeches.
The after party was held in the Pine Room, which is a vintage game hall. “Our guests were able to continue the fun with candlepin bowling, ping pong, pool, and more with only a minute’s walk from the reception,” Danni says. “It was the perfect place to host our after party.”
In Danni’s Words
I’m so glad that…we were able to host all of our wedding-related events on one property. It made everything flow so smoothly!
One of my favorite moments was…walking down the aisle to marry the man of my dreams. Everything came together in that moment so perfectly and we felt truly blessed to be getting married in such a beautiful setting surrounded by the people we love.
I didn’t realize…how quickly the day would go by! I feel so lucky that we can go back and watch the video footage of our wedding. Hiring a videographer was one of the smartest things we did.
I really liked…that our florist and cake vendor were one in the same. Having a two-in-one vendor made planning that much easier and the owner of the company was so easy to work with. Not to mention the fact that she rocks what she does! The cake was delicious and I was obsessed with my bouquet!
My advice to other brides is…good planning will ensure you and your groom have time to actually enjoy yourselves on your wedding day!
